Mercurius Health signs an agreement with Viamed Tarragona to launch and manage its Radiation Oncology service.

  • Viamed Tarragona will be the first private hospital in the Catalan province to have a comprehensive oncology treatment unit, offering its patients a complete oncology service from diagnostic tests to all elements of treatment such as surgery, radiotherapy, medical oncology, as well as support.
  • Mercurius Health continues its development in Spain providing specialised B2B oncology services including radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, and radiology. They provide the entire patient pathway to leading hospitals and oncology centres with the most advanced technology and state of the art equipment.

Mercurius Health, a leading company in advanced oncology solutions, has signed an agreement with Viamed Tarragona Hospital for the implementation and management of the Radiation Oncology Service, included in the Comprehensive Oncology Treatment Unit within the new Viamed facilities. The specialized unit will have first class equipment and medical professionals to offer a comprehensive oncology service, including diagnostic tests, medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgery.

Thanks to this project, oncology patients with private insurance will not have to travel to Barcelona, as they will have quick access to the best treatments, closer to home, in a first-class centre with professionals from all specialties.

The 600 m2 Radiation Oncology Service will be the first private radiotherapy centre in the province. Mercurius Health is responsible for the complete investment in the equipment (1 Linac and additional equipment) and all associated facilities, totaling 4.5 million euros. The centre will be equipped with a state-of-the-art linear accelerator, model Elekta Versa HD, which will provide cancer patients with the most advanced radiotherapy techniques, such as IMRT, SBRT and SRS. In addition to the accelerator, the unit will have specific facilities, including a bunker and a circuit dedicated to maximum safety and the best patient experience, jointly developed between Viamed and Mercurius Health teams.

Viamed began work early last year on what will be the leading private sector hospital in Tarragona and plans to open the hospital in early 2025. During the construction of the radiotherapy unit, Mercurius Health will work closely with the selected construction partners to ensure a smooth handover. Installation of the equipment is scheduled for mid-year, followed by acceptance and commissioning, which will also be carried out by Mercurius Health staff as part of the company’s service portfolio.

For Mercurius Health, this agreement is in line with the company’s strategy to collaborate with leading hospitals and cancer centres, providing medical services with the most advanced technology and state-of-the-art equipment. The centre’s team will be integrated into the Mercurius Health network to benefit from its training, clinical innovation, and remote support services. This will ensure that all advanced techniques can always be provided with the minimum waiting time for the patient. This project represents the fulfilment of the strategic partnership with Viamed to expand oncology in its network.  This is the second unit within the Viamed network, after the launch of the Institute of Advanced Radiosurgery (IRCA) in Viamed Santa Elena (Madrid), treating its first patients at the end of 2022.
