Audit

An Audit is a systematic evaluation, assessment or review of the tasks developed to verify if they are compliant with the standards for that area of activity. In Healthcare, namely in Radiation Oncology, independent external audits have been identified as a crucial piece of the Quality Assurance Program of a department. In such complex workflows and procedures, they allow reviewing specific critical parts or assessing the whole process, according to the scope previously defined. The purpose is to help improve the quality and efficiency of the processes but also to maintain them once achieved. There are several types of Audits – Clinical, Efficiency, End-2-End or Risk Analysis. An Audit, when performed by a certification/accreditation entity, officially stamps the performance standards of an institution.
