Treatment Planning System

Treatment Planning System (TPS) is the software used in external beam radiotherapy to generate optimal, safe and effective dose distribution, with the intent to maximize tumour control and minimize toxicity.

Software used to define beam arrangements, energies, field sizes, and ultimately fluence pattern produced for calculating the dose distribution. This Software tools use 3D patient data from CT and can be used in combination with other imaging modalities to contour volumes of interest. The main function is to optimize the dose distribution with the patient in three dimensions. It often works within a network including the linear accelerator and pre treatment CT scanner.
