The San Juan de Dios Hospital in Tenerife will have a comprehensive oncology unit in collaboration with Mercurius Health.

The centre of the Hospitaller Order, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary in Tenerife, has signed an agreement with Mercurius Health, a leading company in oncological solutions, which will lead and operate the service.

The comprehensive oncology unit will include medical oncology, radiotherapy, multi-specialty consultations, advanced radiodiagnosis and nuclear medicine.

Tenerife, 25 June 2024. The San Juan de Dios Hospital in Tenerife, which this year is celebrating its 75th anniversary on the island, has signed an agreement with Mercurius Health, a European leader in specialised medical oncology services, to incorporate a comprehensive oncology unit with the most advanced technology and state-of-the-art equipment for oncology treatment.

The San Juan de Dios Hospital is in the process of transforming and expanding its healthcare services to meet the needs and demands of the people of Tenerife and has therefore designed new facilities within the hospital complex to incorporate this new service.

Thanks to the alliance with Mercurius Health, this radiotherapy oncology and nuclear medicine service will have a state-of-the-art linear accelerator capable of offering patients the most advanced treatment techniques. It will also be the first private centre in Tenerife to have a PET CT scanner, which will have an impact on the early diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of cancer patients. It will also have brachytherapy, a very important radiotherapy treatment for certain types of tumours such as prostate cancer.

The managing director of San Juan de Dios in Tenerife, José Carlos del Castillo, explained that “the opening of this new facility will offer the population of the province of San Juan de Dios in Tenerife a healthcare resource of the highest scientific and technical quality, with personalised attention, focused on providing a global response to the healthcare needs of people with oncological diseases. This will combine the most advanced health technology in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, with the humanistic vision of an organisation with almost 500 years of history in general and with 75 years of experience on the island of Tenerife”. John Allen, CEO of Mercurius Health, underlined that this agreement “is in line with our strategy to collaborate with leading hospitals and cancer centres, providing medical services with the most advanced technology and state-of-the-art equipment.”
